Gilbert N. San Roman

A Vietnam Veteran, Gilbert served as Combat Photographer with USAF, Detachment 7, 601 Combat Photo Squadron, Danang, RVN and HQ 601 Combat Photo Squadron, Ubon, Thailand during the period March 1972 – September 1974. He spent 8 years on active duty in the USAF, (May 1971 –1979) and has been in the National Guard since 1980 to present. Gilbert was a firefighter/paramedic for 9 years (1980 – 1989) and has been with the USPS for the past 16 years.

In 1983, 1993, 2003 and 2007 he completed the Peace and Memorial Marches from Raton, NM to the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Chapel in Angel Fire NM, a total of 80 miles one way. This is his way of bringing attention to the POW/MIA issue as well as to remember his fellow Vietnam Veteran’s; deceased and alive.

Gilbert has written several poems about the Vietnam War stating that poetry is one of the ways that he uses to come to terms with his past memories.
