PEACE AND BLESSINGS

Morning seems so long ago, but evening has finally come.
This has been a long hot summer day.
Twilight is quickly settling over the land.
Children’s voices can still be heard at play.
A peaceful stillness surrounds the countryside;
As birds sing their final song and slow their flight.
The moon and stars have now become visible in the sky.
The fireflies seem to tell us day has turned into night.
What our eyes can see seems to be all that exists.
As darkness closes in there is a feeling of peace.
Beyond our home the world has faded away.
Children’s voices and laughter has now ceased.
The light from the window is no longer there.
All that is visible is the soft glow of the moon.
The children sleep with the peace of angels.
There is total silence throughout every room.
One last time I gaze at children’s faces in the moonlight.
I thank God for the sweet voices I hear every day at play.
As I close my eyes and feel myself drifting off to sleep,
My mind is filled with all the blessings of the day.
