FIT TO KILL

Your body’s been examined
And determined fit to kill.
They neglected to remind you,
You’re just as likely to be killed.

They say that you’re a man now
And can kill for God and country.
What place must your mind enter
To kill another body?

What thoughts do you encounter
When staring down their barrel?
They too have been examined
And determined fit to kill.

To do this to our children
Is our collective shame.
We never learn our lesson,
It’s our collective blame.

But, war is pure and noble,
Young men must take their places.
So what if thousands die there,
There are thousands more new faces.

The pride within your mother
To know she bore you for this fate.
The joy within your father
To refer to you as “late”.

But, your body’s been examined,
And determined fit to kill.
They neglected to remind you,
You’re just as likely to be killed.
