THE FIRE

Reminded yet again my friend
Just how His grace sustains
Your life will sing you many songs
And some are sad refrains

I watched the fire consuming
Everything that I possessed
But I had not been harmed
And knew again that I’d been blessed

My mother taught me long ago
To see life very clear
Possessions are possessions
And unworthy of a tear

Don’t ever cry for things you have
Possessions come and go
And though they may hold memories
There’s a greater truth to know

To save your tears for people
Who have touched your life with love
And left you here behind them
And found shelter up above
