It’s been so cold inside of me
For far too many years
Perhaps I’m still a hostage
To my fading dreams and fears

Yet though it is my cold world
I have come to see so clear
I’ve learned that other voices speak
Inside me I can hear

Wisdom from the past at times
Mom and Dad a lot
Seeds they planted long ago
That I have not forgot

How hate embraces darkness
While love embraces light
My dad said keep your distance son
From those who choose the night
