Long ago I made a vow
An oath to which I swore
A promise made if I survived
… And came home from the war
To close my fist no more for those
Who did not walk the walk
Those lofty ones who sat secure
And always talked the talk
To find a place far from the crowd
Where trees outnumbered all
And there defend until the end
A peaceful protocol
I kept that vow I made
While knowing we will never see
The answer lies before us
