HEROES OF THE HARDEST DAY

I still can see them lying there
Some eyes are closed, while others stare
The fallen ones, no longer strong
For they have finished with their song

Each one a sacrifice too dear
I bend my knee and ask God clear
To find a place inside his heart
For these his children, torn apart

Too many times I’ve seen that sight
Too many times I’ve cried at night
Unable to restrain my thought
That what they did will be forgot

Forever I will see them clear
Forever I will keep them near
These heroes of the hardest day
Who would not turn and walk away
