DETROIT DIESELS

We cast off with the twilight
As the diesels rumbled strong
They were a trusted sound
That I’ve remembered for so long

A heartbeat you could hear and feel
They grumbled quite a bit
But when the chips were down
They never chose to have a fit

The coming dawn compels our bow
To turn and head for home
And that’s when roaring diesels
Were the sweetest sound I’d known
