THE PUPPET

She lived her life floating
in an ocean filled with whirlpools,
waiting for the next one
to pull her down,
and hold her under,
until it chose to set her free again.

Then love came,
stilled the waters,
and carried her to the security of the shore.

She lived her life as a puppet,
Living for everyone but herself.
What others expected,
What others desired,
What others demanded,
was her life.

Then love arrived and cut the strings,
Set her free.
And she discovered…
herself.
