Richard W. Reith

A simple peck on her cheek,
warm breath soft on her neck,
a whispered “I love you” in her ear.

Serenity, Peace.
Solace in silence,
in loving touch,
in spirits united as one.
Safety and certainty
in that trust which never has to be questioned.

A gentle peck
that says more than a million passionate kisses,
as she lets herself drift
into the exquisite soft fog of sleep.

A peck that transfers the sense
of being understood,
down deep,
in ways she never considered possible.

A weary woman,
a long day,
stress now ending
as it blessedly drains out of her
and sleep brings her home.

A peck.
A simple peck.
