A FOOL IN LOVE

There is no fool like a male fool
Who is pulled into loves eddy:
One who believes in evermore;
Who believes in love, rock-steady.

A fool in love with a woman
Professing love for him
But with one foot out the door
And love based on a whim

“Unlikely I’d ever leave,” she says
Yet he somehow hears “Forever”
Not realizing the constant chance
Of her finding something better

Will she swear to never leave?
“Never say never” she says:
Still he believes in love’s power
To keep her just one more day.

And perhaps in one more day
Love’s certainty will take hold
And true commitment to their love
Will at last finally unfold
