… AND OTHER DAYS

Every man from every war who has a heart and saw the death of a young and vibrant kid, with the world laid out in front of him, thinks about them at the special times of life

When my first child was born, I thought of the guys who would never see this wonder. And the children born while daddy was gone and who would never see him.

At my son’s wedding recently, I wondered if the spirits of these men were watching their children as they got married. Whether their moms made sure they remembered him.

Christmas, birthdays, the peaks of life, the valleys – each brings to mind, if for but a passing moment, those who were snuffed out too early and would never know the beauty of them.

It could just as easily been each one of us.
