QUESTIONS OF INNOCENCE

Indulgence is a true privilege, enjoyed by the tyrant,
At the expense of a poor fate –
And reminds that ‘justice delayed’ means
‘Justice denied’ at lucky attorney’s gate!
Lack of money in poor folks’ pockets
May swing the decision in a court of law –
While the tyrant enjoys the greening
By knowing the facts that this is the flaw!

Simplification of life may reduce stress
But keeps us below the tale of ‘Jones’ –
In our modern society, driven by material objects
And a saga of chilling bones!
The gauge of success depends on visibility
From the outskirts around the world today –
While the “momentum” of our silent spirits
Makes no dents and is neatly kept at bay!

Guilt or innocence is a large “window”
Through which we prefer to hide or look –
While the lawyers search for deep pockets
And deviate from the regulation book!
Verdicts are given in favor of culprits, who can bribe
Or manipulate via blind forces of money –
And in spite of questioning of truth by the judge,
They tend to float happily in milk and honey!

Definition of ‘beauty’ can sway the eyes
Of the beholder, so often we can see –
While the ‘beast’, created by the society
Is kept in the cell under lock and key!
Affluence of our modern life influences the base of law
On which we draw the dividing line –
And prove “guilt or innocence” of the creator
Who loves to mingle, risking your life or mine!

Now, questions seem endless as we progress
Through cyberspace with a new millennium vision –
And explore the new ‘global peace’ through disarmament
Or nuclear fission as our only mission!
The primitives of the past roamed through the forests
Ignoring the intimidation or danger –
But still lived happily with a ‘brotherhood’ mentality
Without the need of a forest ranger!

Today, as I sweep through sands of time,
I tend to devour the capsule of fallacy or cause –
And wait for guidance from the heavenly father,
Who may have taken a sabbatical pause!
Thus, the charms of innocence curve my think pad’s lantern,
As seen on Halloween night –
While the “threats of guilt” hover in brains for a while,
Before they do trickle out of sight!

Peace at heart is too crucial like a healthy body
With a sound mind –
And this is the truth, buried in the tales
That we can obviously find!
At times, the modern friendship creates suspicion
Followed by e-mail or suppression of guilt –
While “questions of innocence” get overlooked,
On which the past society was neatly built!!
