IN THE NAME OF GOD AND HUMANITY
Memories softly tug at my heart
the pangs of love and sorrow
Far too many yesterdays depart
dreams for a better tomorrow
Standing in front of a monument
where the youth of yesterday rest
Young boys went where they were sent
to Viet Nam they did not protest
What thoughts had they as they went
leaving families, friends, and lovers
Surely to return home was their intent
but not for long they would discover
A hell existing on this very earth
life and death in the balance of each day
Soldiers questioning their very worth
the ravages of war would display
While back home the protests continued on;
make love, stop the war that kills and maims
How can you think of love with a Dear John
that adds frustration to the soldiers' pains?
Upon arriving home what did they receive
for what they had fought for every day
No thanks, no parades, no one to grieve
the boys America sent away
How can we ever right the wrong
How can we set these soldiers free
Fly the flag and sing our song
My country 'tis of thee
What do we say to those who question
the black companion flag on high
POWs/MIAs America's confession
to those missing we can't deny
Inform America of the missing you see
Louder than words may our actions be
Until every American is truly free
In the name of God and humanity.
