DECORATION DAY

Wreaths, and crosses, and bouquets,
Placed lovingly decorate the graves.
Of soldiers who now lay at rest,
Soldiers who had done their best.

American flags are all in view,
A perimeter of the red, white, and blue.
And each marker tells a story,
Of a young man's fight with guts and glory.

Off in the distance a band plays on,
A parade has started, the marchers along.
What is the real meaning of this day
That comes along at the end of May?

We commemorate the sacrifice,
Of all veterans who paid the price.
For freedoms bought and paid by them,
Are to be remembered time and again.

Lest we forget - their sacrifice means not a thing if not remembered
