DAWN 1970 CHANGI

the over-night
rain evaporates warmly
ebbing over massed bowed heads

been-places-brown-and-white-faces
silhouette against stark
tropical whites as

blushing dawn
looms out
of the jungle’s lush
horizon shadow

our polyglot congregation
back-lit by the sun
in universal reverence

every creed every race
we all know how
to worship them

once they are dead
