Wally graduated from High School in 1967. Knowing he was going to Vietnam, Wally but did not want to be Infantry so he enlisted and was trained as an Avionics Mechanic, working on Rotor Wing Aircraft.
His first tour in Viet Nam was with 1st Cavalry Division. B Company, 227th, at Camp Evans, Quan Loi in 1968-69 and served with 24th Corp, 108th Arty Group Dong Ha during his second tour in 1969-70.
Wally never worked his MOS but worked in Flight Ops and accumulated 300 flying hours as door gunner. He got out of the Army in 1970 but reenlisted in 1980 in State Active Duty (Tennessee) before retiring in 2007 after 20+ years.
