THE LAST VETERAN

Who will slay the dragons,
And wear the armor bright?
Who will march the marches,
And guard against the night?

Who will man the trenches,
And charge against the foe?
Who will wear the medals,
And parade in ranks, just so?

Who will sound the bugles?
And raise the colors high?
Who will tell the kin folks,
When fine young soldiers die?

Who will live the glories,
And fight till victory is won?
Who will fill the caskets
When the last great war is done?
