Anthony W. Pahl

THANK YOU (A RESPONSE)

Silently dumb ye may be struck…
tis not for me to care or know
for ye speak through words arranged with love
and through those words doth friendship grow.
Tis thy pen that draws the daisy’s petals
and the meadow is the life thou’st led.
Well nurtured in solitude undisturbed
it hast given succour to the words ye shed.
Yet unhappy and alone thy path hath been;
(melancholia and solitude thy only friends)
a grievous pain for a man whose life
is as clear and honest as the words he spends.
And if children and poets leave thy mouth agape,
Secure thy heart that it doth not e’r escape.
