FLICKER OF HOPE
Hope is a longing,
a yearning, a prayer,
a beckoning flame
beyond all despair,
when life is exhausting,
when death grins nearby,
crooking his finger,
a gleam in his eye.
The longing, the yearning,
the prayer we call hope
are God-given tools,
to help us all cope,
our life’s short tunnel,
a narrowing lane,
a slippery funnel
to foreign terrain.
In need of a light
to see past the pain,
we pray we won’t see
the light from hell’s train,
but God’s saving grace,
His mercy and love,
that flickers within
His window above.
