WHERE IS GENEVA WHEN WE NEED HER?

What we do to even our own is pure torture,
suffering and pain that will last for years…
significant harms of significant durations…
cruel, inhumane… a catalyst for tears.

Is there not a statute to counter the harms
we inflict on our soldiers fighting our battle,
who prod prisoners with our self-serving rod
turning the enemy into wild-eyed cattle?

Both will detest us for our heinous deeds
for reducing humanity to its barbaric state…
if we do not stare into their eyes too long
and see the travesty… before it’s too late.
