More years of carnage and destruction lay ahead;
flag-draped coffins; more roses; tears hotly shed;
more distraught parents, sons, wives and daughters
interring more loved ones into more final quarters.

More shovel-warm earthen portals devoid of green
will receive more dirt dumped ceremoniously obscene.
Too-young-to-die, more will say, but not to fight
in more battles more leaders will swear are right.

More polished shoes will turn from more graves
as silent muscular diggers methodically slave
to conceal what remains lowered into the sod…
more of the same, their souls entrusted to God.
