Why don’t they come to get us?
We feel we should have died,
each time we touch that wall
we built for them with pride.

Why did they leave us here?
We swore we’d stick together,
come hell or leech-filled waters,
through every kind of weather.

They left no crumbs to follow
on this aftermath we wend,
struggling on without them
as they slipped around the bend.

We see them on the ceiling,
in the shadows on the wall,
on the canvas of our hearts,
still standing ten-feet tall.

We weep as we remember
those bros we can’t forget
who left us not a crumb,
lest God deny a Vet.
