GRASPING AT A CAUSE

They’ll cling to anything
to justify their deaths,
these families of our soldiers
relieved of future breaths.

It’s really hard to blame them
for cheering on the war,
although, before it’s over,
we’ll lose too many more.

No soldier wants to die
for nothing in the end,
in vain or for some cause
not worth the troops we send.

So, raise the banner higher,
stand firm against the foe
who’ll cling to anything
except the God we know.
