Nancy L. Meek: Disarming the WindDISARMING THE WIND

Half-a-world from home,
they patrol a desert field
in search of hidden weapons
or whatever it may yield;
a haven, maybe, one day
for those who dream of peace,
a breather from the terror
of wars that never cease.

Half-a-world away,
we pray the war will end
in victory for our soldiers
who do battle with a wind
armed to reap destruction,
to disrupt the ones who care,
like our coalition soldiers
who’ll shoot you if you dare.
