Nancy L. Meek

It’s fear which stirs the king
to send his knights abroad
to conquer weaker nations
that can’t defend their sod.

It’s fear which holds his tongue
from declaring war on those
who have a better grasp
on how to beat their foes.

It’s fear of death and dying
which such a king would use
to keep the people voting
and peace his lame excuse.

It’s fear of losing power
which moves his fancy pen
and sends his knights to fight
where he has never been.
