Our vets, grown old and gray,
came home to noxious jeers…
“A piece-of-cake,” some say,
for those who, with their peers,
endured a tour through hell
the clueless shall not see
because we tolled the bell
for the fittest of the free.

Selected from our best,
they did their jobs and more,
then body-bagged the rest,
shipping home the gore;
as fingers jabbed the air
at killers on the mend,
no match to that affair
licking at the wind.
