VETERANS DAY, 1997

A day to honor
All those who served
They showed us courage
Fighting a war faraway

How can we imagine
The wounds they have
Fear, regret, guilt, discontent;
Lost innocence so young

Are we still unaffected?
By time and distance?
Can we comprehend warfare?
Accept, recognize their battle?

They are all heroes
Dying and fighting bravely
In Vietnam long ago
Without a sound today.
