THE FUTURE

it looks like a cold
that I have gotten
and my bulbous nose drips and
is about to fall off my face and
I sneeze and splatter snot all over the place
watched old guy and gal choirs
last night on the TV
about a lot of old guys and gals
just like me
tapping their feet to rock and roll
all of them never knowing just when
their bell will toll
the show must go on
because the time will soon be gone
and like the song says
we’ll all soon be moving on
to that final fitting personal
swan song.
the future is a place
we never seen
in a world
where we have never been
its not as if we had a choice
cause the future cannot hear our voice
the fever blurs my vision
and my ears buzz in droning annoying precision
it hard to say in my condition which way to go
coffee, home, or bed
remembering that when thinking about the future
don’t die before you’re dead
