SIX WEIRD THINGS TO TELL

Even though there was a time
I resented having my boots to shine.
Now I sit with my shoe polish can,
my boots, a shinning rag and shine them oh so fine.

Used to teach recruits to iron their uniforms
and now stranger than unicorns
I love the hiss of steam
and the shirts I press are of a dream.

I flirt like mad and celebrate
even though these days I’m celibate.
The chase always seems more exciting
than the sweaty coupling.

I seek company but love to be alone
and have times in crowds
that cause me to groan.
Or send me with silent scream into the arms of a waking dream.

I love cookies
and am not satisfied with one
will sit and eat till sick
or all of them are done.

I love eggs over easy
with strawberry jam
and although it makes some queasy
peanut butter and bananas when I can.

So that’s all my weirdness for today
It’s been a joy I have to say
to have this fun with words
even if the rhymes are for the birds.
