REFLECTIONS IN THE RAIN

wwoz on the sound track
and another day i’ll never get back
there are so many lately
i can barely keep track

the years pass so quickly
the telephone poles are blurred
and now resemble a picket fence
in the distance

went to a funeral lunch
to celebrate the life
of a person
I really didn’t know

this morning i’ll clean up
up the hall where it was held
and wonder where
his lonely grave is

a friend who has problems
of his own
prepared the much-appreciated lunch
but frankly we were a sorry looking bunch

i had just returned from
retrieving susan sontag’s book of essays
she has left this mortal coil without a song
but “ on photography” lives on
