JUST SITTING THERE

Nothing much doing
just enjoying the light
on this short winter day
from the long winter night.

The space heater
is blasting hot air on my butt
and two large sweaters on
and a toque on my nut.

Have you ever tried
to type wearing a fingerless glove;
Waiting for the kettle to boil
for the hot chocolate that I love.

Waiting for e-mails
for renting the studio so fine,
took off the gloves
to type out this line.

Then lost in thought
with a forty mile stare,
hand poised above keys
just sitting there.

Now I have no idea
from whence came this poem
it’s not something I brought from school
or something hiding at home.

It seemed like the thing to do
and excluding the forty mile stare
instead of dumbly
just sitting there.
