AFTERGLOW

Photo ©Copyright 2010 by John-Ward Leightonup on the roof
with the politics of alone
my mirror wonders
where all the years have gone
that old face
that an acne rash still grace
and one eye cloudy
the other one right
my one remaining fear
that dementia may soon be near
as I scramble to recapture youth
and shield myself from the obvious truth
the relentless sun is setting
and for a moment I’m forgetting
no matter what the night might hold
the sun will still rise in the morning gold
so I enjoy myself in the alone
and worry no more about where my life has gone
there is still a poem on the go
hiding in the afterglow
