TIME

It’s been fifty years
since I was on parade
for the Feu de Joie
celebrating the regiments
one-hundredth birthday in Calgary.

Our Colonel in chief
was in her first year.
I was lance corporal paid
just made
dumb ass and not afraid.

I was also just married
to my blushing bride
and our life together
was just getting into stride.

We had to make do with
a politician to take the parade salute that day
our Colonel was with the second battalion
for their one hundredth year parade
serving in Germany far away.

A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then
my bride has passed on and so has fifty years
our much loved Colonel in Chief
was prevented by volcanic circumstance
from attending our one hundred fiftieth reunion dance.

We got the news
that this would be her last year
as our Colonel in Chief.
So fond farewell to Princess Alexandria of Kent
how fast the bonny fifty years has… went.

My God where has the time gone,
Cyprus, Bosnia, Afghanistan,
and Airborne
the regiment still serves and
stands proud for all of us
as always,

IN PACE PARATUS
