Shorn of my pseudo armour of invincibility
and naked in my mortality and to my surprise
I struggle on to the inevitability
of my demise.

The winter and the lack of light
gives me that uneasy feeling
and a song from a dead pop star
call to those memories from afar.

That face that stares at me from my mirror
tells me of the passing of the time
but who knows what is in my heart
or on my mind?

There is a cool draft up my back
from the cold of the day
and I must pack up shave
and be on my way.

Perhaps a coffee at The Tongue
before I start my journey
and start the way
to my ultimate destiny.

Will wear my jump boots
as respect to the young man
killed today in
Afghanistan.

He was with my first regiment
and my heart is heavy this day
for the family and his comrades.
Damn this war.

Angry and sad
the lion in winter
can still roar, even if in vain,
and command that we stop the pain.

And the pop song
says
I got the feeling
that tonight’s gonna be a good night.

The lion dances
on the keyboard
and beats his feet
in time.

Now claps hands
and hits the return
and smiles on his way
to happy.

Go to the ultimate enter!
Be happy and don’t distract,
tease or displease
the lion in winter.
