WHEN?

Why did those soldiers go to war
To defend thoughtless souls like me?
They were the bravest men I ever saw
But the world is still not free.
It was the same in my father’s day;
It brought no peace at all:
Tis just a break from the violent fray,
Then back to the trumpet call.
And we who went to fight our war,
Who did we fight it for?
And now our sons on a foreign shore
Do what we’ve all done before.
When do we measure all the cost
And say to the world, NO MORE!!
