UNENDING PEACE

Could mankind survive unending peace,
that all prosperity would never cease;
that nations grow and grow and grow
and farmers sow and sow and sow?
That progress be to enrich the poor,
because there is no need to spend on war?
Could the Earth withstand the great demands
of the extra billions of idle hands,
and all those extra mouths to feed
who love and love and more love greed?
Is not famine an element of the peace
to cull the masses that increase
beyond the boundaries of their fields
that once were set by swords and shields?
