UNCLE CIRIL – WW1

the deadly bomb blast blew him,
into Hell’s despair,
where he lay in tatters,
it seemed beyond repair.
the medics came and found him
but it was all too late,
he lay there so badly injured
that death would be his fate.
into the pit they lowered him
for he was surely dead,
as they spaded dirt upon him
that covered where he bled,
but as the soil like blanket
was covering o’er his head,
they saw the body moving
“Mother!!”, his voice said.
his comrades ceased their digging
to raise him from the ground,
when they wiped away the bloodstains
a spark of life was found.
so they took him from the battle
and was given back his life,
and he returned to his dear Mother,
to his children and his wife.
