THEY DON’T LOOK HIM IN THE EYE

Don’t hate the soldier for he is just a man
Prepared to die that you may live in peace.
He does those things no other person can
That all your priceless passions will increase
He fights for love and people never met
For all those treasured dreams we all enjoy
He goes to war and kills without regret
Returns a man, from where he went a boy
All the horror; the maimed, the bloodied flesh
That numbed his thoughts back then with mental shock
Denies him now, a veteran; peace of mind
As he fights a war with those who still do mock,
Who’ll never know why soldiers choose to die
For they do not seek to look him in the eye.
