Those who fought in the cold climes of Korea,
Australian warriors the best of fighting men
Regular soldiers brave beyond their fear,
Did not encompass “we will remember them”
Until the Vietnam War troops came back home,
Conscripts mostly seeking to be heard,
Till then the veterans of Korea were alone,
Forgotten and considered to be absurd.
For few do care lest all their sons are called,
To fight the battles the professional soldiers fight,
Who kill and die in foreign places mauled
Every day somewhere and every night.
There is a cost to keep our nations free,
That mostly citizens do not ever see.
