Some make war their life’s vocation;
Some from war learn how to live.
Most would choose some other station,
Where life was not the rule to give.
A soldier trains in the art of killing,
Death is the reality of his skills,
For a warrior must be willing,
To endure the consequences of his kills.
He must depend on choices made by others,
He must obey, as would perhaps a fool,
For with his dauntless loyal brothers
He is an expendable though valued tool.
Some like to think that they were different,
But that is generally not the rule.
