We wait then for a mad, mad, mans decline,
For war to come to test your faith and mine,
For soon Australia will stand beside its friends,
To share in war whatever war portends
Ere yet doth sadness dwell within my heart,
For I do weep, as our brave troops Depart.
I will but pray lest I do join the fray,
Of media hype and writers of the day,
Who feed on war like vultures over meat,
To promote their gains and their self deceit.
Tis a time for silence, a time for us to pray,
A time for courage, not a time for play.
And if I’m heard or better if I’m not,
Tis because of what I lack; not what I’ve got.
