We can only know that we love one another;
We may not know the reason why.
Such is the inner connection of these brothers,
Who fought to survive, or die.
We can all hear the echoes of the guns,
Taste the cordite on our breath,
See the wire and trip flares beyond the bunds,
Taste the fear and know of death.
It was not for flag and country that we fought;
We fought for one another,
Warriors all, as we were taught…
And for what we all discovered.
A deep, deep bond that can’t be bought
That unites us all as gunners.
