Would that the living, all the elements bare,
Suffering alone, for what can we share?
Then nothing is lost when we soldiers who dare,
Reap the good news that there is no one to care.
For caring is pleading, protesting and more,
Yet we in our pride defend the atrocities we saw,
And now as we suffer we scold those who say,
That fighting a war just isn’t the way.
For we went as brave soldiers (though look at us now),
That now we must justify our actions somehow.
For though we were victims it is essential to know
That if war came again then off we would go…
For though we might scorn what we no longer face,
We cannot admit that it was a disgrace.
