Colin F. Jones

Well I went to war to get a rise in my pay,
Not for God and country as the politicians might say,
I thought not of our leaders or of our great flag;
I thought more about avoiding a dead body bag.
I carried out my job the best that I could,
For a while I was sick but I didn’t shed blood.
Mostly I was shooting or commanding a gun,
Which I thought at the time was really good fun.
It was really great knowing what we were there for,
For we were nearly always in combat fighting the war.
Well they never quite reached us to disrupt our lines;
Their poorly aimed rockets missed us a few times…
The duels that we fought we won every one,
We were proud of our role until the day it was done.
