MODMAN

Unlike the calumniate most pathetic of rabble,
That would have befit the early Gallowglass to be,
The modern soldier is more able to grapple,
With a sense of honour and dignity,
That was more influentially associated with officers,
Derived from an educated cultural stream,
When the masses were less familiar with culture,
And wealth was an immaculate dream.
Modern man is less likely to serve as a soldier,
For he is more educated and self assured,
For without the pips decorating his shoulder,
He’d not of brutality and savagery be cured.
Yet a primitive sense still draws them to battle,
Despite what those soldiers before them endured
