You have a choice; leave me or remain,
Share my anger; share my bitter pain,
Or choose to go; find a better man,
Who will give you hope who knows not Vietnam.
There’ll be no joy living here with me,
I’ve lost my way as you must surely see,
I longed for you so much it wasn’t real,
There was only fear and elation I could feel.
I am still there hiding in my weapon pit,
Here where once my buddy used to sit,
No child would want to have a dad like me,
I’m sick and hurt and need to set you free.
I’m so sorry for my anger my indifferent way;
Oh why do you choose here with me to stay?
