Colin F. Jones

Hold me back as I struggle to join the fray,
Release me not lest I stumble there and fall,
For in my heart I’m not eager the others to flay,
With my unwilling willingness to vanquish them all.
Well at first I was anxious but now I’m relieved,
Had they not held me back I’d have dreaded the fear,
For my boldness may have been wrongly perceived,
And being a hero might have become my reluctant career.
Ah! But I love you, all you daredevil men,
Who didn’t take no for an answer but went back again,
Eager to serve be it with a rifle or pen,
But ah! I can still write of your horror and pain.
Though true I know nothing of what I do write,
Tis after the fact that I can gain from the fight.
