FROM ONE VETERAN TO ANOTHER
I fled not my anguish,
I retained it for tomorrow!
Now I can’t sleep
Not with my sorrow.
One should cast away
That which is terror
Lest all life become
A perpetual error.
What good is thought
Of dead men dying;
Forever caught
In a veteran’s crying?
From adult to child
This anguish passing;
Their world defiled
By sad thoughts massing.
I must give but love
And keep on trying
To accept that life
Is part of dying.
By example glowing
True joy showing,
Love overflowing
Until I die.
