Better to defend the armoury than the flag
Lest our eagerness to honour it doth flag.
For though the pole be severed and men die,
In the hearts of victorious soldiers it will fly.
Better to support your comrade than the Pope,
The soldier there beside you is your hope.
The President may reward you with a speech
But on the field of battle. what he might preach
Does not keep you from dying in despair
But that man their beside you, he will care
Because he shares all that is true and real,
And feels inside himself all that you feel.
So If I had gone back home in a body bag,
‘T would not be due to dying for a fucking flag.
